Michigan's Unemployment Rate Remains Unchanged In April

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.8 percent remained the same in April as it was the previous month.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget says Wednesday that total employment in the state rose by 17,000 while the number of unemployed increased by 1,000.

Michigan's jobless rate in April 2015 was 5.6 percent.

Data shows Michigan averaging 234,000 unemployed so far this year. That's about 42,000 below the average over the first four months in 2015.

Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives Director Jason Palmer says "payroll jobs have recorded solid gains every month, while individuals continue to enter the workforce on a monthly basis."

The Detroit metro area's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in April was 5.6 percent.
