CBS DETROIT - Michigan announced Thursday that sophomore tight end Jake Butt tore an ACL during winter conditioning and is out indefinitely.

In 2013, his freshman year, Butt caught 20 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Butt only caught one or two passes per game until mid-November, when he caught three passes for 20 yards and a touchdown in an three-overtime win at Northwestern. He was instrumental in the Wolverines' near-upset of Ohio State with five catches for 85 yards and a score. Butt also snagged three passes for 33 yards in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.

"Jake's done a tremendous job since he's been here," head coach Brady Hoke stated in a press release. "He's worked extremely hard and gained a lot of weight to become the complete tight end he wants to be. I think he showed flashes of that towards the end of last season. This is a tough break, but because of his work ethic and attitude, the kind of young man he is, we know he will be back as soon as he can and as strong as ever."
