Michigan Supreme Court Revives Bid For DNA Test In '88 Oakland County Murder Case

PONTIAC (AP) - The Michigan appeals court has been ordered to take another look at a request for DNA tests in a 1988 homicide in Oakland County.

Gilbert Poole Jr. is serving a life sentence for the fatal stabbing of Robert Mejia in Pontiac nearly 30 years ago. He insists he's innocent, and students from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School have been working on the case for more than a decade.

The law school says stones and other evidence from the crime scene were checked for blood type but not for DNA.

The Michigan Supreme Court last week sent the case back to the appeals court. The Innocence Project at Cooley says it's a "big win."
