Michigan State Police: Protesters Attempting To Block Freeways Will Be Arrested

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) — More than 100 people are marching toward downtown Detroit from Wayne State University, protesting the rise of Donald Trump as the next president.

The Friday night march was organized by a group called By Any Means Necessary, which regularly speaks in favor of affirmative action and immigrant rights in southeastern Michigan.

Michigan State Police warned protesters through Twitter that peaceful protests are allowed, but trying to block freeways will lead to arrest.

Kal Barawi, a student at University of Detroit Mercy, held a sign that said, "Show Love, Spread Love." He accepts the result of the election but is upset over the divisive tone of Trump's campaign.

The 20-year-old says, "This is not a country we want to become."

Another protest was organized in Royal Oak, where some students this week chanted "build the wall" — an apparent reference to Trump's call to build a wall at the Mexico border.
