Michigan State Plans Housing Development Near Breslin Center

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan State University wants to build a 40-acre housing development across from the Breslin Center that would act as a gateway to the school's campus.

The Lansing State Journal reports plans are moving forward for the new Spartan Village, an estimated $150 million project. Plans for the development to be built on a parking lot in time for fall 2017 classes still need final approval.

Kathy Collins, the school's director of Residence Education and Housing Services, says project details could change before a scheduled presentation to the Board of Trustees in June. The board authorized planning and design for the project in 2013.

Plans call for new construction on 10 acres. The 8-year-old University Village complex and land to the west will be included in the development project.
