Michigan Participates In 2-Week Motor Coach Safety Effort

LANSING (AP) — Michigan State Police motor carrier officers are participating in a two-week initiative that focuses on ensuring passenger bus safety.

The effort starts Sunday and runs through May 28.

Under the initiative, Michigan officers will promote safety and security by inspecting motor coaches for overall vehicle maintenance, including the conditions of brakes, tires and exhaust systems. They'll also verify driver qualifications and compliance with hours-of-service requirements.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is leading a national enforcement effort.
