'Michigan Matters' Focus: Hackel Jets Towards The Future!

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel talked about going for the F35 Lightning Fighter Jet program being selected in coming weeks by the U.S. Air Force.

Hackel talked up prospects for Selfridge Air National Guard Base as a leading site for the new project.

"This will have an impact for 30 years," if successful, he told "Michigan Matters" Senior Producer/Host Carol Cain during taping.

Hackel also gave an update about his gubernatorial prospects which has been the source of much speculation.

Hackel appeared on the roundtable with Denise Ilitch, Rocky Raczkowski and Cain.

They discussed President Donald Trump and veterans. Raczkowski, a veteran, was at the White House with Trump and dozens of others who served the nation last week.

Ilitch also shared thoughts about State Sen. Coleman A Young II's new bill to rename a position of Woodward Avenue near Comerica Park after her late father, Mike Ilitch.

The bill is picking up steam in the state legislature.

Mr. Ilitch and the late Mayor Coleman Young worked together to help downtown Detroit a generation ago.

Also on the show is Scott Heim, Program Manager at U.S. Army TARDEC, who discussed autonomous military vehicles on Michigan highways and the Blue Water Bridge.
