'Michigan Matters' Exclusive: Peters Vs. Land - The Senate Candidates Sound Off

(CBS Detroit) - Republican U.S. Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land and Democratic challenger Cong. Gary Peters took to the "Michigan Matters" set and talked about issues impacting Michigan and what it will take to win on Nov. 4.

Land, former Michigan Secretary of State, discussed her background and how it would fit in with being a U.S. Senator.

Peters, discussed how being a Congressman would help him serve as a U.S. Senator.

Carl Levin, who has held powerful positions in Washington including chair of Armed Services Committee, is retiring from the position.

Both candidates pointed to the flurry of negative ads -- and outside money that came into the race and what bothered them most .

Land also discussed being a female on the campaign trail and the difference it made. And Peters talked about his role in helping the auto industry during the 2008 global meltdown and how it has played out.
