Michigan Man Fatally Shot After Pointing Gun At Police

KENTWOOD, Mich. (AP) - A man has been shot to death by police in a western Michigan apartment building after reportedly pointing a handgun at an officer.

The Kentwood Police Department says two officers responded about 11 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a possible suicidal man at Sutton Club Apartments, near Grand Rapids.

Police say the 47-year-old man pointed the gun at one of the officers after leaving an apartment.

The Grand Rapids Press reports Thursday that the man's gun contained one jammed round. Investigators also are looking into whether a shell casing found in a hallway came from the same gun.

Kentwood Police Chief Tom Hillen says an autopsy and toxicology test will be performed on the dead man. His name was not released.

Kent County sheriff's officials are investigating the shooting.
