Michigan High School Football Stadium Locked Down After Possible Gunfire, Fireworks Sound

WYOMING, Mich. (AP) -- The sound of possible gunfire or fireworks following a western Michigan high school football game sent fans and players scurrying to safety.

Benton Harbor athletic director Fred Smith tells The Herald-Palladium of St. Joseph for a story Saturday that "everybody was scrambling" and "most of the kids went into the bathrooms or locker rooms."

Police in Wyoming, near Grand Rapids, could not confirm if shots were fired after the Benton Harbor Tigers beat Wyoming Godwin Heights 58-41 Friday night.

The stadium was placed on lockdown. No injuries were reported.

Smith told the newspaper that the sounds were heard outside the stadium. He said "people who were filing out of the stadium ran back in" and that he saw a couple of police officers retrieve long guns from their vehicles.
