Michigan GOP Selects New Member Of U.S. Committee

BOYNE FALLS, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Republican officials have chosen a local GOP leader to replace Ronna Romney McDaniel on the party's national committee.

Kathleen Berden was elected Saturday morning during a meeting of the Michigan Republican Party State Committee in Boyne Falls. The grandmother of 10 from the Thumb region community of Snover has served as chairwoman and vice-chairwoman of the Sanilac County Republican Party and a delegate to the 2012 GOP convention.

Berden replaces McDaniel, who was elected state party chairwoman. She's the niece of former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Each state has two committee members: a man and woman. Michigan's other RNC elected member is Dave Agema.

Agema has refused to step down after making anti-gay, anti-Muslim comments and despite calls to do so from many top Republicans.
