Michelle Obama To Attend Detroit College Signing Day Event

DETROIT (AP) — First Lady Michelle Obama is scheduled to speak to students during a citywide "College Signing Day" in Detroit.

The White House says in a release Monday that more than 1,500 students from more than 40 high schools will participate in Friday's rally hosted at Wayne State University by the Detroit College Access Network.

She is expected to highlight the importance of students pursuing and completing some form of higher education and doing their part to answer President Barack Obama's call for the United States to have the world's highest proportion of college graduates.

More than 400 signing day events are planned across the country by communities, students, and organizations.

Michelle Obama spoke last year at a "College Signing Day" event in San Antonio.
