Michael Jordan To Serve As Honorary Michigan Football Captain For Season Opener

ANN ARBOR (CBS Detroit) -- A very special guest will serve as an honorary captain for the Michigan Wolverines' first football game of the 2016 season.

Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed on the Rich Eisen Show that basketball legend Michael Jordan will walk the team to mid-field during the fall opener on September 3 against Hawaii.

Michigan will become the first NCAA football team to sport the Jordan Brand logo on its uniforms. The basketball team will also wear the Jumpman logo, while the rest of the university's sports will wear the trademark Nike "Swoosh" pattern.

The university's new deal with Nike is set to be put in motion starting in August. U-M's contract with Adidas -- the sporting and apparel company the school has been with since 2007 -- expires at the end of July.
