Detroit Metro Airport Employee Arrested For Bringing Gun To Work

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit Metro Airport employee was arrested over the weekend after authorities say she brought a loaded gun to work.

Lisa Farbstein, with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), told WWJ Newsradio 950 the weapon was discovered as the employee was reporting to work at one of the gift shops in the airport on Sunday.

The woman was going through a security checkpoint, Farbstein said, when a TSA officer spotted a gun in the woman's bag as it passed along the x-ray conveyor belt.

Wayne County Airport Police were called and the woman was arrested on a weapons charge. She also faces up to a TSA fine of up to $11,000.

"What is unusual about this specific instance is that is it an airport employee," said Farbstein, "and I would really like to think that people who work at the airport would know better. And in this case somebody sure learned a lesson the hard way because there was an arrest."

Farbstein said the .38 caliber gun was loaded with five rounds.

The woman's name was not immediately released.

"We hope that this serves as a reminder to anybody coming to any airport that, if you own a firearm, please leave it at home," Farbstein said.
