Meridian Mall Evacuated After Man Was Overheard Saying He Would 'Shoot Up The Mall'

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- The Meridian Mall in Ingham County was evacuated by police after a man was overheard saying he was going to "shoot up the mall" on Friday evening.

Police were called to the mall, which is located on Marsh Rd. just north of Grand River Ave. in Meridian Township, just before 6:30 p.m. after reports indicated two men were making threats.

One was overheard saying he was going to "shoot up the mall" and that he had a firearm in his vehicle.

Police from Michigan State University, Michigan State Police and the Ingham County Sheriff's Office accompanied Meridian police in response and the mall was placed on lockdown until just after 8 p.m.

Customers were evacuated to ensure their safety while police searched for the two men involved in the incident.

Police are now asking the public's help identifying two persons of interest. The men are both described as white males in their early 20s. One was wearing a black shirt, camo shorts, white socks and black sandals.

The other was wearing a backwards red baseball cap, a black shirt, gray shorts, black socks and black shoes.
