Program Addresses Mentoring As A Low Cost, High Results Way Of Changing Lives

DETROIT (WWJ) - January is National Mentoring Month -- raising awareness of the impact that mentoring has on the lives of young people.

The National CARES Mentoring movement launched it's Detroit CARES affiliate Friday with a fundraiser.

Susan L. Taylor, Editor and Chief Emeritus of Essence Magazine, founded the program.

"Mentoring is a low cost, high results way of changing the trajectory, the predictable outcomes, for young ones who are in under-resourced schools and who are in unstable families and who's parents aren't able to give them everything that they need," said Taylor.
