Meijer Offers $10 Coupon After Credit Card System Failures

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Meijer is apologizing for  two credit and debit card system failures -- in the form of a $10 coupon.

The coupon, which must be used Friday or Saturday, is good as long as shoppers spend $50. It's accompanied by a message saying: "You deserve better. We're committed to offering our customers a great experience, and that didn't happen during a network outage."

Two outages in February forced many shoppers to leave without the items in their carts, unless they had enough cash on hand to pay. Meijer spokesman Frank Guglielmi said a glitch at the company's point-of-sale system caused a failure in the credit and debit card system.

The outages lasted about 30 minutes at more than 200 stores in five states.
