Medical Assistant Accused Of Fondling Patient At Henry Ford Hospital

DETROIT (WWJ) - A medical assistant at Henry Ford Hospital is facing a sex assault charge after he allegedly fondled a patient.

A 52-year-old woman claims that 19-year-old Derek Scott of Hazel Park inappropriately touched her while she was in an exam room in the Neurology unit at the main hospital on West Grand Blvd.

The victim filed a police report immediately after it happened.

Hospital officials say Scott, who was working as a patient care technician at the time of the alleged incident, passed a criminal background check before he was hired and he's since been fired.

"We sincerely regret the conduct alleged in this criminal complaint, and offer our sincerest apologies to our patient who entrusted her care in us," the hospital said, in a statement. "This in no way reflects the values, professionalism and compassion of our more than 23,000 employees."

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday issued an arrest warrant for Scott on a charge of 4th degree criminal sexual conduct.

Scott was scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment Friday afternoon.
