MDOT: Next Phase Of I-275 Project To Begin Monday

NOVI (WWJ) -- Oakland County commuters will have a new construction project to maneuver around on Monday.

As part of the I-275 project, MDOT has saved a portion of ramp work until the last possible moment because it will affect so many drivers.

MDOT's Diane Cross told WWJ Newsradio 950 that it will affect the I-696 west ramp, the west M-5 ramp and the north I-275 to north M-5 ramp.

"First, we're closing northbound M-5, the ramp to 12 Mile -- that'll be midnight," Cross said. "Then at 10 a.m. -- after the morning rush hour -- we are closing all northbound M-5 ramps."

The only available northbound ramp will be east I-96 to north M-5. Cross said the project will last until mid-October and that motorists should expect big delays and travel times.

For the latest from the roads, stay with WWJ Newsradio 950 during Traffic and Weather on the 8s, 24-hours a day. Check for recent incidents now on the CBS Detroit Traffic Page.
