MC Hammer To Bring 'Innovation To The Urban Community' With Tech Conversation

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Three-time Grammy Award winner MC Hammer is teaming up with Digital Undivided founder Kathryn Finney for a special event to discuss technology and the future of entrepreneurship in the urban community.

The focus of "Innovative the Hood: How to WIN at This Tech Game" will be to bring innovation to the urban community.

Speaking live on WWJ, Finney said that the best way to for someone to learn modern technology is to find the nearest 13 or 14-year-old and take a look at their phone.

"The reason why it's that age group is because they were born in the digital age, so for them this is natural," Finney said. "Having them teach you should give a certain perspective of how this has really integrated into everything we do."

Finney was named by the White House as a "Champion of Change," for breaking down barriers in the tech industry.

"I think Hammer is a great example of transition," Finney said. "I think it's a great story for Detroit to hear -- he was one of the top hip-hop stars of the '90s and went through some challenges and now he has invested in some of the top tech companies out there."

The Tech event takes place at Cass Tech High School in Detroit, Friday September 5, between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. The event is open to the entire Detroit community.

MC Hammer has spent more than a decade researching social behavior, broadband and wireless platforms, mobile technology applications, rich media and social communities.

Members of the public must register in advance to attend the event HERE.
