Massive Sinkhole Opens Up On Detroit Road [PHOTOS]

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Motorists be warned -- a giant sinkhole has appeared on a Detroit road on Monday afternoon.

The opening is located at the intersection of Chene St. and Medbury St. just south of the GM Detroit-Hamtramk Assembly Plant on Detroit's northeast side.

Curtrise Garner with the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department told WWJ Newsradio 950 about what caused the road to fall.

"We have an 8-inch water main break and there was also sewer damage as well, which is what caused the cave-in," Garner said. "We did here about this through and email. A resident told us about this sinkhole and we responded probably within about 45 minutes."

Because of the size of the break, Garner said that the repair should take a few days. Barricades have been set up in the area so traffic wont be able to get through.
