Man's Body Found In Detroit River Near Mud Island

ECORSE, Mich. (AP) - Police in suburban Detroit say investigators are looking for clues to the identity of a man whose body was found in the Detroit River.

Ecorse police Sgt. Cornelius Herring tells the Detroit Free Press that an angler discovered the body about 9:40 a.m. in the water near Mud Island. The site is about eight miles southwest of downtown Detroit.

Herring says the U.S. Coast Guard reports that the man was black and appeared to be 30 to 35 years old. The sergeant says the body was in the water about nine days and will be hard to identify.

The body was taken to the Wayne County medical examiner's office for an autopsy and effort to identify the man.
