Man Working Along Railroad Struck, Killed By Train

ROMULUS (WWJ) - Romulus police say a man who died after being struck by a train in Romulus was apparently working along the tracks when he was hit.

The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. Monday on the railroad near Inkster Road just south of I-94.

Police say the 57-year-old man was either working on or near the tracks at the time of the accident. The Norfolk Southern train was going 40 miles per hour, according to WDIV.

In a statement, Norfolk Southern said it is investigating the incident "to determine the cause and whether anyone had permission to be on the Norfolk Southern right-of-way."

An investigation is ongoing.
