Man Who Fatally Shot 3-Year-Old Girl Sentenced To 43 Years In Prison

DETROIT (AP) - A man convicted of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old Detroit girl says he didn't intend to take anyone's life.

Donnie Everett was sentenced Friday to at least 43 years in prison. Police say the shooting last fall was related to a dispute on Facebook. A fight among girls outside a house led to shots being fired. Amiracle Williams was killed.

Everett told a judge that he was scared and fired his gun as protection. He says "you're a victim" without a gun in Detroit.

At the time of the shooting, police Chief James Craig said the "senseless violence" was committed by a "coward."
