Man Wanted In Connection To Manslaughter Case Turns Himself Into Police

(CBS DETROIT) - The Oakland County Sheriff's Department says a man has turned himself in to authorities after being accused in the death of a 34-year-old man.

Jaquan Whittaker, 26, has been charged with manslaughter in the Oct. 22, 2020 shooting of another man at a Pontiac convenience store. The sheriff's department says 34-year-old Keon Keith Johnson was shot twice and died on Oct. 23, 2020.

On June 10, 2021, the sheriff's department released information to CBS 62/ CW50 seeking to locate Whittaker. Crime Stoppers was also offering a reward of up to $1,000 leading to Whittaker's arrest.

The sheriff's department told CBS 62/ CW50 on Monday, June 14 that Whittaker "was supposed to have turned himself in over a week ago but failed to do so."

After information was released by CBS 62/ CW50 on Thursday, June 10, the sheriff's department stated Whittaker called and stated, "he was going to turn himself in (on Monday) at the jail."

According to the sheriff's department, Whittaker turned himself into authorities on Monday and would "likely be arraigned (Tuesday)."
