Man Tries To Catch Toddler Running In Street, Both Struck By Car

REDFORD TWP. (WWJ) - A toddler is fighting for her life and a Detroit man is hospitalized after both were struck by a car when the little girl ran out into the street.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Grand River Avenue near Beech Daly Road in Redford Township.

According to police, a group of people were crossing Grand River when the 3-year-old girl ran off on her own. The 21-year-old man was attempting to run after the girl when both were struck by a westbound traveling vehicle, according to police.

Both were rushed to a nearby hospital. Authorities say the young girl is in critical condition, and the man is in stable condition with multiple injuries.

The driver, a 31-year-old Northville resident, stopped at the scene and was questioned by police.

Officials say neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.
