Man, Teen Sentenced In Murder Of Homeless Flint Veteran

FLINT (AP) - A teenage boy and a young man have been sentenced to spend 22 to 40 years in prison for torturing and fatally beating a 57-year-old homeless veteran in Flint.

Brandon T. Harris was 15 and Peris A. Dorsette was 20 when they attacked Gary Nagy in 2013. Witnesses say Harris and Dorsette saw Nagy sleeping under a trash container near a school and began taunting him.

Both pleaded guilty April 8 to second-degree murder and torture, in exchange for dropping of first-degree murder charges.

First-degree murder carries a mandatory penalty of life in prison without parole, except when the killer is under 18 at the time of the crime.

Genesee County Circuit Archie Hayman sentenced Harris and Dorsette on Monday.
