Man, Teen Girl Fatally Gunned Down At Detroit Market; 2 Kids Thrown From Car As Victims Tried To Flee

DETROIT (WWJ) - Two suspected murderers are on the run in Detroit after a young man and a teenage girl were fatally shot and two children were injured as the victims tried to flee gunfire at an east side market.

The incident happened around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday outside of the Hayes Troester Market on Hayes Street just north of Houston Whittier.

A 21-year-old man reportedly picked up three kids from school and the group was hanging out in the store's parking lot when two gunmen walked up and started shooting.

The man tried to get away from the gunfire and drove across the street where he crashed into one of three vacant buildings. The man and a 13-year-old girl who was sitting in the front passenger seat were fatally shot.

A 14-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy who were who were riding on the hood of the car were thrown from the vehicle as the driver tried to flee. The girl is hospitalized in critical condition. The boy is hospitalized in stable condition.

Police are reviewing surveillance video from the business and possible cell phone video that might have captured the incident.

The two suspects, who fled the scene on foot, remain at large. According to reports, one of the suspects was wearing bright orange gym shoes. Both are described as young black men.
