Man Suspected Of Fatally Striking Elderly Man Dies In Crash

MARION, Mich. (AP) -- Police say a man suspected of killing an elderly man with his vehicle in Osceola County fled the scene and died in a crash.

The incidents occurred Friday night in the Marion area, 50 miles northwest of Mount Pleasant.

Lt. Gary Green of the state police says troopers were told that Thomas Alger had repeatedly run over an 81-year-old man. Alger fled, ran a stop sign in a rural area and crashed into a minivan.

The 48-year-old Alger was dead at the scene. Three people in the van were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The name of the older man wasn't released.
