Man Struck, Killed While Helping Relative Stopped Along Road

TROWBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A 35-year-old man who stopped to help a relative with car trouble along a western Michigan road has been struck and killed by another vehicle.

The Allegan County sheriff's office says Rickie Sheldon Jr. was killed Saturday as he was getting back into his vehicle on M-89 in Trowbridge Township, south of Grand Rapids.

Witnesses told deputies that Sheldon had stopped to pick up the relative whose pickup truck was on the road's westbound shoulder. Sheldon's vehicle was on the eastbound shoulder. He was hit by a vehicle traveling east.

The name of the driver who struck Sheldon was not immediately released.

The accident is under investigation.
