Man Shot Dead Outside Of Home On Detroit's West Side

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are searching for a killer after a 58-year-old man was shot dead outside of his home on the city's west side.

The shooting happened around 5 a.m. Friday morning at a home on Burt just south of Joy Road.

Neighbors told police they heard multiple gunshots before a gray car sped away from the home.

The victim was declared dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

Dennis Dangler, who lives in the area, said the sound of gunshots rang through the quiet night.

"I was sleeping on the couch, I woke up and I heard three shots, like a .40 caliber, and hollering," Dangler told WWJ's Charlie Langton. "I looked out the door, heard arguing, a car spun off and there he laid."

While some neighbors said they couldn't believe this happened, Dangler had speculations of his own.

"If you're such a good person, why are you dead? You know, they just didn't drive by for the hell of it and shoot, you know? I don't -- I've been around too long," he said.

No arrests have been made.

An investigation is ongoing.
