Police: Boyfriend Shot Dead In Domestic Dispute At Southfield Apartment Complex

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - A man was shot and killed at a Southfield apartment complex in what authorities believe is the deadly result of a domestic dispute.

The situation unfolded around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday when police received a 911 call about shots fired at the Tel-Twelve Place Apartments on Lockdale Street, along Northwestern Highway just south of 12 Mile and Telegraph Roads.

Officers arrived to find a 34-year-old man shot to death and his 24-year-old live-in girlfriend with a handgun.

"It appears that there was a domestic dispute between a 24-year-old female and a 34-year-old male," police said in a statement. "The dispute escalated causing the female to retrieve a handgun and fatally shoot the male."

The woman was taken into custody for questioning without incident. Police say she's being detained as the investigation continues.

Allen Schultz, a maintenance worker at the complex, told WWJ's Mike Campbell this wasn't the first time this couple had a disagreement.

"On several occasions, I have knocked on the door because she was crying and telling him not to hit her, and I'd knock on the door and say 'Hey, what's going on in there?' and then it kind of stopped," said Schultz. "So yeah, this has been going on for a little bit."

An investigation is ongoing.
