Man Sentenced After Trying To Kill Mom; May Have Been Angered By Being Asked To Mow Lawn

BATTLE CREEK (AP) - A convicted sex offender has been sentenced to 41 to 82 years in prison for shooting his mother in her bedroom at their western Michigan home.

Forty-year-old David Siefert pleaded no contest Oct. 30 to attempted murder and possessing a firearm in a felony. Calhoun County Circuit Judge Conrad Sindt sentenced Siefert on Monday in Battle Creek.

The Battle Creek Enquirer says that Siefert moved into his mother's home in Sheridan Township near Albion in March 2013 after serving about 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl.

Sixty-three-year-old Patricia Siefert says her son shot her in the shoulder with a rifle Aug. 24. She was able to flee after it jammed.

Authorities say David Siefert may have been angry at being asked to mow the lawn.
