Man Rescued From Water After Airboat Flips Near Harsens Island

ST. CLAIR COUNTY (WWJ) -- A man was hospitalized on Saturday afternoon after his airboat flipped near Harsens Island.

St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon says Daniel Watson, 34, from Algonac was returning from dinner when he flipped the boat over at around 4 p.m.

Officials say he began screaming for help from the water before someone in a kayak rescued him.

"It was not a phone call I expected either when I heard we had a boating accident," Donnellon said. "I was a little bit surprised as well. But, I mean, it's not totally unheard of considering it is an airboat, so it can run all winter and this is the time of year that they do use those. I think it's probably a little more unusual to have a kayak out there rescuing someone in the missle of January."

Officials say Watson is likely going to be okay.
