Man Killed, Woman Injured In Fatal Barn Fire In Monroe County

EXETER TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- A studio-type apartment above a barn in Exeter Township caught fire, leaving one man dead and another woman injured in Monroe County early Monday morning.

According to police, the 54-year-old man's body was found inside the barn, while his girlfriend, a 58-year-old female, was able to flee the barn after it ignited and contacted police. The woman was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital for treatment of the burns she suffered to her hands and feet.

The man was transported to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office where an autopsy will be performed. Names are being withheld pending notification of family members.

The cause and origin of the incident remains under investigation by Monroe County officials.
