Man Killed While Crossing Street In Wheelchair

YPSILANTI (AP) - Ypsilanti police say a man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while crossing the street in his wheelchair.

Mack James Juide Jr. was hit on Thursday. Police say the 72-year-old Ypsilanti resident died overnight.

The Ann Arbor News reports the driver was arrested near Ann Arbor after trying to flee.

According to police, the 26-year-old Dexter man won't be arraigned until Saturday. He's expected to face felony charges.

Neighborhood resident Lucy Cry-Bass says people drive too fast down the street all the time. She says she's "amazed this hadn't happened before."
