1 Killed, 4 Wounded In Shooting Outside Car Wash On Detroit's East Side

DETROIT (WWJ) -- One person is dead and four others are wounded after a shooting on Detroit's east side on Friday night.

Detroit police responded to scene at around 8:15 p.m. on Gratiot near Houston-Whittier St. where a man was fatally shot outside a car wash.

Deputy chief Renee Hall told WWJ Newsradio 950 that the four surviving victims were taken to St. John Hospital in various conditions -- one in critical condition, two in serious condition and one in stable condition.

"We do not know the circumstances of the shooting," Hall said. "We have some children who were witnesses to the incident."

Hall said that police have no leads and no suspects are in custody. All of the victims are black males in their mid-20s.

"We're hoping that the community can help us," Hall said. "Anyone who witnessed this incident, who has any information relative to what happened and why this shooting took place, we're looking for their help."

Hall said that the shooting occurred at the same car wash where a quadruple shooting took place in 2015. The area has been under a close watch by the 9th Precinct.

Hall said a party was shut down by police at the location in April.

The incident remains under investigation.

It was just one of three shooting incidents that happened Friday night in the city, leaving a total of two people dead and at least six others injured.

In one incident, a 21-year-old man was shot dead while walking in a neighborhood near 8 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue after a car pulled up and two people jumped out of the back seat, one with an assault rifle.

In the other incident, two men were injured in a shootout following a robbery attempt outside of a home on Meade, near the I-75 and Davison Freeway interchange.

No suspects have been taken into custody in any of the incidents. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-267-4600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
