Man Killed In Explosion While Mixing Chemicals

FOREST TWP. (AP) - Police say a 65-year-old man has been found dead after an explosion while he was mixing chemicals inside a rural Genesee County home.

State police Lt. Dave Kaiser says the man's nephew discovered the man's body on Wednesday at the home in Forest Township. Kaiser says the man was mixing chemicals on a homemade stove and he said the chemicals aren't believed to be related to drug activity.

The Flint Journal reports police identified him as David James Saultman. An autopsy is planned Thursday to confirm cause of death.

WNEM-TV reports the explosion blew out windows on the second floor of the home about 60 miles northwest of Detroit. A state police bomb squad responded and destroyed chemicals that were potentially explosive behind the home in a field.
