Man Gets Life, No Parole In Fatal Stabbing Of Gas Station Employee

BATTLE CREEK (AP) — A judge in battle Creek has sentenced a 31-year-old to life in prison without parole for fatally stabbing a woman during a robbery of the gas station where she worked.

Last month, a Calhoun County Circuit Court jury found Shawn Pike guilty of first-degree murder for the July 23 killing of 27-year-old Nicole Gates. Judge Conrad Sindt sentenced him Monday.

Authorities say Pike stabbed Gates 87 times and say he took money, beer, cigarettes and lottery tickets from the Citgo gas station.

Alyssa Evans testified during the trial that Pike confessed to the killing hours afterward.
