Man Found In SUV In Muskegon River Likely Killed Himself

CROTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities say a man found dead in an SUV in a western Michigan river likely died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

The Newaygo County sheriff's office says the man was 47 years old, although his name wasn't released Friday.

Fishermen spotted the vehicle Thursday in the Muskegon River in Croton Township, 45 miles north of Grand Rapids. Ken Corrigan, who lives nearby, tells WOOD-TV that the death is "sad." He says the man could be "someone from around this area."

Fishing guide Jay Allen was on the river Thursday and spotted the red Chevrolet. Even from 100 yards, he says, "You could tell something was weird."
