Man Found Dead, Slumped Over Steering Wheel On Detroit Street

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are trying to figure out exactly what happened to a man who was found dead, slumped over the steering wheel of his minivan in Detroit.

The man was discovered just before 6 a.m. Thursday on Strathmoor Street near Chelfonte Street, in a west side neighborhood near Fenkell and Hubbell avenues.

Police say the man was shot to death, possibly in a drive-by or walk-by situation. Other circumstances are unclear.

An investigation is ongoing.

A woman who lives in the area but did not want to be named, said she thinks she might have heard the gunshot.

"I was getting up, going to work this morning and my car wouldn't start. I went back in the house and I heard a thump. It was about 5:40 and that was all I heard. And normally, I would look out the windows but I didn't look this morning," the woman told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "I'm a little rattled right now."
