Man Finds Newborn With Umbilical Cord Still Attached While Walking On Dirt Road
WHITE CLOUD, MI (AP) -- A man walking a dog along a western Michigan dirt road has found a newborn with her umbilical cord still attached.
Jeff Kopp tells The Grand Rapids Press and WOOD-TV he thought the dog was sniffing a rabbit about 10:30 a.m. Monday in White Cloud, about 40 north of Grand Rapids.
Kopp told the TV station he starting yelling when the unclothed baby moved. His wife and daughter held her until police arrived.
Newaygo County sheriff's Lt. Chad Palmiter says the baby had some scrapes and may have been there for six hours. He says Child Protective Services may petition for custody.
The mother is described as a teenager who lives across from where the newborn was found. Palmiter says she and child are in good condition at a hospital.
