Man Falls Off Bridge, Drowns While Fishing In Monroe County

LASALLE TWP. (WWJ) - A 76-year-old man who died while fishing in a Monroe County creek was trying to remove a fish from the line when he fell into the water.

The Sheriff's office said Raymond Pfund, of Monroe, was fishing off the Knabb Road bridge in LaSalle Township around 10 a.m. Wednesday when he fell into Otter Creek.

A Monroe Community Ambulance unit was close by and responded to the area. Paramedics located Pfund and removed him from the creek, but lifesaving measures were unsuccessful. Pfund was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Pfund was attempting to remove a fish off a fishing pole line when he fell into the creek. Witnesses told police that Pfund struggled to
get out of the water, when they momentarily lost sight of him. He was later found in four feet of water under the bridge.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone who might have information is asked to call police at 734-243-7070.
