Ex-Con Facing Multiple Charges In Wayne Murder

WAYNE (WWJ) - A 24-year-old man is facing multiple charges in connection with a deadly shooting in Wayne.

Tyler Lyndell Lankford was arraigned Friday in 29th District Court on charges of manslaughter -- statutory short form, manslaughter -- death by weapon aimed with intent but without malice, felon in possession of a weapon, felony firearm and habitual offender -- second offense. He was ordered held without bond.

The shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. Monday in the 35000 block of John R, not far from Michigan Avenue. Police arrived on the scene and found a 27-year-old Westland man dead from a gunshot wound. His name has not yet been released.

Other circumstances surrounding the case remain unknown. Police, however, said immediately following the shooting that this was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.

Lankford is due back in court for a probable cause conference on Nov. 29, with a preliminary exam set for Dec. 6.

According to Michigan Department of Corrections records, Lankford was previously convicted of possession of a dangerous weapon in 2013 and received a two-year jail sentence under a plea bargain. He was discharged in Sept. 2015.
