Man Electrocuted In Macomb County Industrial Accident

CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - Police say a 51-year-old Canton man has been killed in an industrial accident in Macomb County.

Police Sgt. Anthony Coppola said the incident happened just after 4 a.m. Wednesday at Tower Automotive on Groesbeck Highway at Hall Road in Clinton Township.

Fire Marshall Ronald Young said the man, a contractor who works for Technical Logistics in Romulus, was electrocuted when the boom on his truck hit a power line as he dumped a load of scrap metal into a bin. The trust burst into blames.

Other circumstances are not yet clear.

Young said DTE Energy would be looking into a possible electrical problem.

"An electrical cause is definitely not ruled out at this point; we're under investigation," Young said. "Without a doubt it's accidental, at this time — pending the medical examiner's results, and DTE's results with the overhead power lines. That will give us the cause."

The victim's name was not immediately released.

"All these things...they're always tough for everybody involved," Young said. "It'd like to just reach out to the family, you know, as well as the fire department — I believe they did an excellent job out there and put out the fire under tough circumstances ... So I'm pretty proud of those guys at this point."
