Man Dies After Stepping In Front Of Amtrak Train

CANTON TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Police say a 38-year-old man has died after stepping in front of an Amtrak passenger train in metro Detroit.

Police say the St. Clair man was hit around 7:50 p.m. Thursday, several hundred feet from a railroad crossing on Hannan Road just south of Michigan Avenue in Canton Township.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No passengers on the train were injured.

The incident remains under investigation, although police say the death appears to have been a suicide.
