Man dead in Sterling Heights shooting

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) —  A man is dead and one person has been arrested after a shooting in Sterling Heights early Saturday.

The Sterling Heights Police Department reports its officers were called about 5:30 a.m. that day to the Extended Stay America hotel on Van Dyke Avenue near East 14 Mile Road.

Upon arrival, officers found a man in the parking lot, dead as a result of a gunshot wound. Investigation then determined a possible suspect and his location at a home in the 8000 block of State Park Street in Center Line.

Sterling Heights, Center Line and Warren police officers set up a perimeter around the home "as the situation turned into a barricaded gunman," the report said.

After hours of negotiations, the Sterling Heights Crisis Negotiation Team talked the armed suspect into dropping a handgun and leaving the home. He was then taken into custody.

One man is in custody in connection to the incident.

Investigators say the two men knew each other and believe the incident started over an argument.

The investigation is continuing. Police ask that anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Sterling Heights Police Department Investigations Bureau at at 586-446-2825.
