Man Charged With Murder In Death Of 8-Month-Old Boy

COLOMA, Mich. (AP) — A 30-year-old southwestern Michigan man has been charged with murder in the death of an 8-month-old boy.

The Berrien County prosecutor's office says that Brandon Beshires, of Benton Harbor, was arraigned Monday. He also is charged with first-degree child abuse.

Carter Donovan suffered head injuries on Friday while his mother, 31-year-old Autumn Atchley, was at a doctor's appointment in Coloma, southwest of Grand Rapids.

Authorities say Beshires was with the child for 90 minutes. After Atchley returned to the vehicle they drove Carter to a hospital.

Beshires is not the boy's father.

He was ordered held on a $1 million bond. A preliminary examination conference is set for March 2. His preliminary examination is scheduled for March 8.
