Man Charged In Federal Court After Allegedly Trying To Purchase Grenades

DETROIT (WWJ) - A man arrested Sunday allegedly buying five grenades from an undercover FBI agent in Monroe appeared in federal court Thursday in Detroit.

Sebastian Gregerson's attorney tells WWJ that Gregerson converted to Islam and took the name Abdurrahman Bin Mikaayl, and is merely a lifelong gun enthusiast and Bear Grylls fan and not a danger to the community.

The criminal complaint [pdf] filed in U.S. District Court alleges Gregerson bought five grenades from an undercover FBI agent in exchange for a Beretta and had an arsenal of weapons in his home.

Federal prosecutor Kathleen Quarkin said weapons found in his home include seven rifles, 20 knives, tactical gear and training materials, two ski masks along with what is called a 'grab and go bag' filled with hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

The federal judge ordered Gregerson, a father with twin boys, to be held in prison pending a hearing on Aug. 15 on two explosives charges.
