Man Charged In Crash With Amish Buggy That Killed Woman, Injured 3

BEAVERTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A van driver has been charged in a December crash with an Amish buggy in mid-Michigan that killed a woman and injured three children.

The Bay City Times reports 58-year-old Kevin D. Toner of Coleman was arraigned Wednesday on one count of operating a motor vehicle under the influence causing death. Court records say he was under the influence of THC, the psychoactive chemical in marijuana.

He was ordered released on $15,000 personal recognizance bond. The Associated Press left a message Friday seeking comment from his lawyer.

The Gladwin County sheriff's department says 31-year-old Sarah Stutzman of Clare County was pronounced dead at the scene of the Dec. 14 crash in Beaverton Township, about 125 miles northwest of Detroit. The children were taken to a hospital for treatment.
